On May 23, at approximately 3 a.m. officers observed two individuals walking in the area of Longview Road where numerous reports of auto theft and auto burglaries have occurred over the last month. Both subjects gave conflicting stories as to where they were and where they were going. One male stated he was 17 years old so he was transported to South Orange PD where a family member was notified and he was ultimately turned over to his grandparent. The second subject provided false information to officers and was placed under arrest for hindering/ providing false information. His identity was found to be Nyquan Flythe, a 19-year old Newark resident. He was found to have two active warrants out of Elizabeth totaling $500.
On May 22, at 11:50 p.m., Carl Pennella (age 22) of Ridge, N.H., was arrested for stealing a large piece of sheetrock from the rear of the South Orange Police Department. Pennella walked into the rear of the Police Department from the parking lot at 185 South Orange Ave., stole the sheet-rock and placed it into a pickup truck which was parked behind 185 South Orange Ave. The witness to this theft was an off-duty South Orange Police Officer who notified the SOPD dispatch and ultimately resulted in an arrest. Pennella was charged with theft and issued a summons and a court date.
On May 21, at 10:30 p.m., the employee at the Delta Gas Station at Irvington Avenue and Tichenor Avenue was sitting at the desk inside the office when two males entered, pushed the victim to the side and stole the cash from the desk drawer. Both individuals then fled south on Tichenor Avenue. Suspects are described as two black males; one wearing a black North Face jacket with a black hood and gray sweatpants, the second suspect is wearing a red-hooded sweat shirt with khaki pants. Theft from Auto
On May 20, during the early morning hours a South Orange Avenue resident reports two of his unlocked vehicles were entered while parked in his driveway. Both vehicles were ransacked.
Theft of Bicycle
Victim reports on May 19, she left her bicycle (Men's black and purple Mongoose Mountain Bike) near the front entrance to 185 South Orange Ave. When she returned a short time later it was missing.
Theft from Auto

A resident from Brentwood Drive reported his BMW-X6 was stolen from his driveway during the early morning hours of May 6. Vehicle was recovered by the NJSP on route 78. The South Orange Detective Bureau is investigating this theft. The South Orange Police Department reminds everyone to lock their car doors at night. Never leave your key fob inside your vehicle.
