Fatal Hose Fire – Myrtle Avenue – Police Fire EMS and surrounding Agencies responded to a house fire in which one person died and another in critical condition. Nutley Police, Fire and Essex Prosecutors Office are investigating.

Suspicious Incident – Coeyman Avenue - Officers responded to the area on a suspicious incident.  The resident reported that a silver, 4 door sedan, stopped in front of their residence and were seen kicking a lawn sign before getting in the car to leave.  It should be noted the law sign said “WE SUPPORT OUR LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT HAVE YOU HUGGED A COP TODAY." There were numerous signs on the front lawn all in support of Law Enforcement. 

Theft – Chestnut Street - The victim contacted Police to report a theft.  They stated they noticed that someone took their bicycle from their backyard.  The bike is described as a yellow and black BMX.

Theft – Cathedral Avenue - A theft was reported and Officers responded to the scene.  The victim stated that when they returned to their vehicle that was left parked in their driveway, they found the rims and tires missing from their vehicle.  The wheels had wheel locks on them.  The vehicle was left on milk crates.

Theft -  Coeyman Avenue - Officers responded to the area on a report of theft.  The victim stated they saw two (2) male parties and one (1) female party run onto their front lawn and take their sign that read, "BLACK LIVES MATTER."

Fraud – The victim wished to report an incident of fraud.  They stated they received a phone call from a party claiming to be from the Social Security Administration.  They said that there was a drug bust in Texas and that the victim’s social security number was involved.  The victim was told that their identity would be flagged, and they would be arrested if they did not send money, in the form of prepaid gift cards. They followed the instructions given by the caller, and purchased 6 gift cards with a total value of $1,190. The victim then provided codes to the caller.

Suspicious Activity – A report was made in regards to an employment advertisement link on Facebook.  The victim stated they clicked on a Facebook link and was contacted by a party through Facebook Messenger who referred them to another party that continued the “employment process” through Telegram messenger.  The victim provided some pedigree information but did not provide their social security number.  The victim’s suspicion rose when they were asked to provide a $100 E-bay card, and they terminated communication.  There has been no suspicious activity on the victim’s accounts and all of their financial institutions have been made aware of the incident.  Officers advised the victim to report any suspicious events noticed on their accounts.

Fatal Accident- Police and Essex County Prosecutors are investigating an incident in which a passing motorist fatally struck a woman. Incident occurred at 7:22 PM on Washington Ave. near intersection of Rutgers. Anyone that may have witnessed or observed vehicle involved are asked to contact Nutley Police 973-284-4940
