SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- The Union Catholic girls basketball team, which has posted an impressive 15-4 record, were rewarded for its strong season by earning the third-seed and a bye in the first round of the Union County Tournament.
The Vikings will host the winner between 14th seeded Kent Place and 19th seeded Union in the second round on Tuesday, Feb. 18 at 4 p.m. .
Union Catholic is led by junior Madison Johnson (16.9 point per game) and senior Abbey Ortiz (10.9 ppg), and several other players have contributed to the success of the team.
The Vikings, 8-2 in its last ten games, have been able to get out to big leads against many of its opponents this season, and have won 13 games this season by ten or more points.
Kent Place,is 5-11 this season, enters the county tournament with a two-game winning streak. Union is 0-18 this season.
Before its county game Tuesday, the Vikings will play home against Immaculata on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
