Garden State Equality, “New Jersey’s statewide advocacy and education organization for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community,” is coming to Hawthorne on September 23 for a special presentation. “Established in 2004, Garden State Equality (GSE) is the largest LGBTQ advocacy organization in New Jersey and one of the most successful statewide civil rights organizations for the LGBTQ community in the nation.”

The Hawthorne Pride Alliance, established by Mayor Richard Goldberg, has announced its first free public event to occur on September 23rd at 7:00 pm in the parking lot of the Hawthorne Municipal Building.

This event, a presentation by Christian Fuscarino the Executive Director of Garden State Equality (GSE), aims to shed light on the importance of equality. The presentation by Christian Fuscarino was chosen as the inaugural event sponsored by the Hawthorne Pride Alliance to highlight the importance of representation at the town, county, and state level, of which Hawthorne is newly a part.

The speaker of the event, Christian Fuscarino, has “won a student Emmy award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for his End the Silence public service announcement. In 2008, Christian founded The Pride Network, a national leadership development non-profit. Fuscarino’s volunteer work has received numerous accolades, including recognition from the New Jersey State Senate and Assembly, Congressmen Bill Pascrell and Donald Payne, U.S. Senators Robert Menendez and Frank Lautenberg, and Governor Jon Corzine. Hofstra University honored Christian, an alum, as their 2012 Man of the Year for his work developing a safe-campus space for LGBTQ students while earning his BA in digital media and LGBTQ studies.”

Mike Stracco, the Chairperson of the Alliance, says “our public events are to educate, and to motivate the community at large. We are very excited about our inaugural public event and we welcome Christian and Garden State Equality to Hawthorne. The Hawthorne Pride Alliance is looking forward to working with Mr. Fuscarino and Garden State Equality. ”

There is no admission to this event; however, all guests are asked to bring their own chairs and maintain all State and Federally mandated Covid-19 restrictions.

Parking will be available on Grand Ave as well as Arlington Ave.
