School Security Guard

Duties Supervise student activity on school grounds and as scheduled by administration in the building and protect school property.

Check assigned areas of the building (inside and outside) and school grounds to prevent theft, vandalism, other unlawful acts, and control student behavior.

Prevent infractions of school rules and report any to assistant principals.

Direct visitors, guests, or non-students to proper offices or warn them to leave the premises if they have no legitimate reason to be on school property.

Apprehend and/or expel unauthorized persons. Help direct teacher, visitor, parent, and student traffic throughout the school day and during loading and unloading buses.

Supervise pupils who arrive to school late or leave school early under the expanded education plan and follows:1. Allow no congregating outside classrooms or in parking lots.2. See that pupils avoid wooded areas and areas used for physical education.

Protect school property from damage.

Render assistance within the school building whenever the situation arises.

Conduct himself/herself always as to reflect upon himself/herself and the school system.

Maintain hours set by the school administration. Availability to work additional hours if needed.

The hours are M-F 1:30pm-5:30pm


All Security Officers assigned to the District must have a minimum of five (5) years of experience in security, and/or military or alternate experience as approved by the District.

All Security Officers must receive fingerprint clearance per New York State Department of Education regulations. Records and approvals must be forwarded to the District.

All Security Officers must possess a valid NYS Drivers License.

All Security Officers must consent to pre and post employment random drug screening.

All Security Officers must be checked against the Sex Offender watch list.

All Security Officers must participate in District training as necessary and be part of the emergency response effort.

All Security Officers must be registered with the NYS Department of State and must possess a valid NYS Security Guard Registration Card.

All Security Officers must possess a valid Basic First Aid, CPR/AED certification card from the American Red Cross/ American Heart Association or other approved accredited agency.

All Security Officers must receive training in communications, to include conflict resolution and verbal de-escalation techniques.

All security officers must have a good command of the English language and have the ability to read, write, and speak English.
