WESTFIELD, NJ — Golfer Jason Lee shot a 73 to tie second at the Red Devil Invitational at Heron Glenn Golf Course Friday.

Lee, a junior at Westfield High School, shot a 71 to win the Union County Conference Tournament at Galloping Hill on April 29. Lee is this week’s Ron Bansky and Associates Allstate Westfield Athlete of the Week.

“He is a mature and confident player who leads by example,” said head golf coach Ryan Daly. “He is easy to coach because he is fully committed to our program and always comes to practice ready to work and improve his game whether it be in conditioning, at the range or on the course.”

Lee’s season average for nine-hole matches is a 39, Daly said. The recent wins are no small feat.

“For Jason to win the conference and take second at Heron Glen — two great finishes back-to-back shows that he has what it takes to win tournaments at the high school level — that is a big step for him and a big step for our program,” Daly said.

Lee is not just an expert on the golf course; he is scoring in his academic coursework.

His academic successes include making honor roll numerous times, including for the second marking period of this year and the fourth marking period of last year.

The boys Blue Devil golfers head into a championship at Echo Lake Country Club Thursday afternoon.
