The Texas Tenors will combine musical forces with the Bay-Atlantic Symphony to create an unforgettable night blending opera with country, pop, show tunes and classical music on Sunday, September 23 at 3 p.m. at the Symphony’s Annual Gala at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa.

“The Texas Tenors are eclectic and contagious,” said Bay-Atlantic Symphony music director Jed Gaylin. “We are so excited to bring this combination of talent and music to the southern New Jersey region. Not only do they capture the heart of Americans, they are also performers of the highest level.”

The Texas Tenors – NBC reality show America’s Got Talent superstars – consist of Marcus Collins, J.C. Fisher and John Hagen, each of whom bring a unique tenor experience to the group. Collins provides a contemporary pop voice and boyish charm and humor. Fisher brings his country voice, with experience in Italian opera and gospel music as well. Hagen is known for his rich tenor voice and has performed numerous operatic and symphonic works around the country.

The Bay-Atlantic Symphony focuses involvement in the four county communities (Atlantic, Cape May, Cumberland and Gloucester).  They provide music education for children and adults, bring international soloists and performers to Southern New Jersey, and produce the highest quality performances.

The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey will officially mark the opening of its new Manahawkin, Ocean County Educational Center with a ribbon cutting and reception on September 13.

The public is cordially invited to attend the event at the new facility, located at 712 Bay Avenue in Manahawkin at 9 a.m. on Thursday, September 13, 2012.

The facility brings Stockton’s quality and affordable educational offerings to Ocean County for the first time.  “We’re very excited to plant roots in Ocean County, consistently one of our strongest counties in terms of enrollment,” Stockton President Herman J. Saatkamp said. “With the opening of the Manahawkin site, Ocean County students will have the opportunity to enroll in the same high quality Stockton courses—yet closer to home—while pursuing their Stockton degree."

The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey also announced it will play host to a free lecture by Dr. Birute Mary Galdikas, world expert on orangutans, on Friday September 28.

Dr. Galdikas, subject of national media attention for her research and field work with these fascinating animals, will present the talk, “Endangered Orangutans and Disappearing Rain Forest in Borneo” which is free and open to the public.

The event will take place from 2:30 to 4 p.m. in the Campus Center Theatre on September 28.  A reception follows the talk.

The event is part of a schedule of events presented by Orangutan Foundation International, which also includes a fundraiser at Greate Bay Country Club in Somers Point on Saturday, September 29, and a brunch on September 30.

Tropicana  Casino and Resort announced the promotion of industry veteran Steve Callender to the position of General Manager. Callender will oversee all business operations at the destination resort.

Since late 2010, Callender has served as senior vice president of casino operations for Tropicana. A graduate of Glassboro State College (now RowanUniversity), he started his extensive Atlantic City gaming career path as a dealer at Resorts, when that first Atlantic City casino debuted in 1978.

Over the next decade, he steadily worked his way up the ranks at Resorts to assume the role of vice president of casino operations, before making the jump to the Atlantic City Hilton as its casino manager. Callender continued to build his resume as the senior vice president of table operations at Bally's Atlantic City, where he played an instrumental role in melding the Claridge Casino into the Bally’s brand. Following that task, Callender came full circle back to Resorts as its senior vice president of operations for four years.

“Steve has been a strong player in the gaming industry for years and will be an invaluable asset as general manager” said Tony Rodio, Chief Executive Officer of Tropicana Entertainment Inc., who has been serving as acting general manager for Tropicana Casino and Resort, Atlantic City. “He has the skills and the vision to successfully guide Tropicana into the next era.”
