Ever heard the term CSA floating around at farmer’s markets or local farm stands?
CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture, a program used by local farms to share their fresh, in-season produce with local consumers in a convenient and affordable way. The crop boxes (or what the farmers call “shares”) are filled with the freshest fruits and vegetables of the week, allowing you to fill your kitchen with the best, locally-sourced foods. The share items are harvested from the farm on the morning of your pick-up day ensuring that everything is at the peak of ripeness. The boxes may also introduce you to products that you normally wouldn’t find or purchase in the regular grocery store. This adds variety to your meals and extends itself to some creative new dishes! Don’t worry if you aren’t sure what something is or if you don’t know what to do with it because you will also receive the Wightman Farms Gazette in every box. This newsletter contains recipes and other interesting bits of information related to the items in your box.
Wightman Farms understands that families have different needs. With that in mind, they offer several options to fit your family’s lifestyle that can be scheduled for weekly or bi-weekly pick-ups. We believe in supporting all things “community” at Astute Academics and are proud to announce that we have teamed up with Wightman Farm’s to bring CSA boxes to you in Randolph! When the CSA boxes start in May, we will offer our office as a pick-up location on Tuesday afternoons! The Wightman Farm’s CSA is a 20-week program during the height of the growing season that begins the Tuesday after Mother’s Day.
