Q: Describe what your business does? Is it mainly business to business or business to consumer?
A: We provide personally tailored educational and consulting services to our students and community. We provide academic services to students from PreK through Adult. Our services include but are not limited to tutoring, test prep, college advisory, educational and psychological testing, and teen/life coaching. We also offer academic enrichment throughout the year either through one-on-one tutoring or through small group classes.
Q: What is your favorite thing about Livingston?
A: My favorite thing about Livingston is the commitment to education that we see through our students and their families. There are so many opportunities for students in our area and it’s great to see that these students are taking advantage of them.
Q: Did you go to school for what you do now? If you could do it over, what would you have majored in in college?
A: I went to Rutgers University in New Brunswick and earned a BA in Psychology and then earned my MA in Instruction and Curriculum from Kean University in Union. I would not have changed my college major -- I was torn between pursuing a PsyD in Clinical Psychology and going for my MA and obtaining a teacher’s certificate.
Q: What is the most frequently asked question by potential customers or existing clients?
A: Should I take the ACT or the SAT? How can I best prepare for these tests?
Q: What is your favorite part of the workday or week and why?
A: I most enjoy meeting with parents and students and helping them to create an academic tutoring plan or to choose a test that best fits their strengths. I love helping parents help their children whether it is through academic planning, discussing college advisory, or advising them on diagnostic testing. It is the “helping” part that I love the most! I also love to hear about the successes of our students! Which colleges our students get accepted into or perhaps an amazing test score that a student just got back! I also love to hear the positive feedback we get about our tutors who are all so dedicated and knowledgeable.
Q: What are you most passionate about?
A: I feel strongly about supporting the whole student and not just a student’s academic needs. For this reason, we make it our mission to provide personalized service to meet the unique needs of each of our students and their families which may include recommending professional services to fulfill these needs.
Q: How did your business get started?
A: In 1984, Estelle Finkel started tutoring at her kitchen table. As she gained the trust of students and their parents in the Livingston community, her business grew. Today, my husband Chris and I are proud to continue in her footsteps.
Q: Does your business have a symbol or logo? What does it stand for?
A: Our red Graduation Hat logo has a hat that is pointing “up” and stands for always striving to achieve and moving in an “upward” direction toward your goals.
Q: When you’re not at work, what is your favorite thing to do?
A: I enjoy travelling with my family, reading, cooking, and entertaining.
