June 3, 2019 6:08 PM FD Responded signal eight to a brush fire adjacent to NJTWB rail line behind Salerno Duane car dealership on BROAD STREET. Upon arrival found a 20’ x 40’ area burning. FD requested dispatch notify NJT to slow trains and have NJTPD respond. Contained, extinguished, and overhauled using water cans and shovels. NJTPD arrived and supported train safety.
June 5, 2019 2:19 AM FD responded into Millburn for automatic aid for a structure fire located on NORWOOD TERRACE. Summit provided a Firefighter Rapid entry team until released by Millburn FD. A modified signal 10 was requested for Summit Station coverage.
June 7, 2019 1:44 AM FD responded to a BEAUVOIR AVENUE PARKING LOT for motor vehicle fire. On arrival nothing showing. The fire department investigated and found an extinguished car fire contained to the passenger seat. The fire department overhauled the seat and soaked the seat. A check for extension with a thermal imaging camera was done, with none found. An Overlook Hospital employee used a fire extinguisher to extinguish the fire prior to the fire departments arrival.
June 11, 2019 6:44 PM FD responded for a reported outside fire next to the structure at a MOUNTAIN AVENUE residence. Millburn FD responded automatic aid. On arrival a smoke condition was found at the rear of the structure. A gas grill was found burning on deck with gas line involved. A Signal 11 was transmitted for station coverage. An attack line was stretched, and a water supply line established. A dry chemical extinguisher was used initially to improve visibility and to determine fuel supply. The grill was found to be supplied by a natural gas pipeline coming from the structure. Entry was made to the house to secure the gas and check for extension. The shut off valve did not work and no extension was found. The attack line was used to extinguish the fire and to gain access to the exterior shut off valve. On scene personnel complete overhaul and conducted the investigation. Assistance was provided to the homeowner regarding contacting his insurance company.
June 20, 2019 6:41 PM FD responded to ROUTE 78 for a reported truck fire. On arrival found a tractor trailer driving on the shoulder smoke coming from the exhaust pipe. The driver stated his turbo was broken and he was meeting his mechanic at the next exit. The driver stated he already spoke with NJSP and he continued driving. Summit FD canceled Springfield and BHFD on route.
June 24, 2019 2:30 PM FD responded to an OAK RIDGE AVENUE residence for a report of an appliance possibly on fire in the basement. On arrival investigation found a malfunctioning dehumidifier in the basement. FD removed the dehumidifier from the residence. The area around where appliance was located was checked with thermal imaging camera, no extension was found. FD opened up the unit and found melted plastic and burnt wiring inside. FD personnel vented the basement to remove the smoke.
June 28, 2019 2:42 PM FD responded on report of a dumpster fire in the rear of a SUMMIT AVENUE liquor store. On arrival fire showing from a dumpster close to the building. FD stretched an inch and three quarter hand line to extinguish the fire. FD checked the building for extension and none was found. Overhaul completed looking for any hot spots. An investigation into cause was completed by on duty personnel. JCPL was requested to the scene to check the service wires over the dumpster. The scene was turned over to the building owner.
June 29, 2019 8:43 AM FD responded to GLENSIDE AVENUE for a motor vehicle accident car vs pedestrian. On arrival found a bicyclist struck by a vehicle. FD personnel conducted a patient assessment. Patient signed an RMA with the FD.
July 4, 2019 12:50 PM FD responded to the intersection of MORRIS AVENUE and ASHWOOD AVENUE for a report of a MVA with possible live wires. On arrival Summit Police were on the scene of a MVA involving 2 vehicles which had both struck a traffic signal control box. First Aid Squad was on the scene attending to injuries parties. Due to the live wires Summit DPW was requested to respond as was Jen Electric to make needed repairs. Both vehicles were removed by duty wrecker.
July 9, 2019 8:47 PM FD responded to a WALDRON AVENUE residence for a reported oven fire. On arrival and investigation no fire found. The home owner was using the self-cleaning feature on her oven and saw flames inside the oven. The oven and surrounding area was checked for extension using the thermal imaging camera. The home owner was advised to discontinue use of the appliance and to contact a service professional to check the oven for proper operation.
July 10, 2019 1:10 PM FD responded to the intersection of MOUNTAIN and ELM STREET for a reported 2 car motor vehicle accident. PD on scene reported entrapment. On arrival FD found a 2 car MVA with one car rolled over on its side with the driver pinned inside. Summit FAS arrived and began patient care in second vehicle. FD used struts to stabilize the car, and used the “Jaws-of-Life” tool to open vehicle. A “Sawz-All” tool was used to remove the roof of the car to assist in removing the driver from vehicle. Summit FAS and Medic 1 performed patient care and transported. FD remained on scene until cars were removed and absorbent was applied to a small fluid spill.
July 16, 2019 11:22 AM FD responded to BULTUSROL GOLF CLUB in SPRINGFIELD on a UCMA assignment for a report of a structure fire. On arrival Summit FD units were assigned as a FIREFIGHTER ASSIST and SEARCH TEAM and to interior firefighting operations. A modified 10 and 11 were transmitted for station coverage.
July 19, 2019 7:53 AM FD responded into MOUNTAINSIDE to ROBIN HOOD ROAD on a reported structure fire. On arrival Summit personnel were assigned to assist with suppression operations. A Modified Signal 10 was ordered for station coverage in Summit.
July 24, 2019 11:08 PM FD responded into MILLBURN on auto aid for a basement fire at 33 CRESCENT PLACE. A modified signal ten was transmitted for station coverage. On arrival command requested the Summit FD to start ventilation in the structure. Summit remained on location assisting the Millburn Fire Department until released by the incident commander.
July 31, 2019 6:30 PM FD responded to the intersection of HOBART AVENUE AND THE SOUTH SERVICE ROAD for report of a 2 car motor vehicle accident. On arrival found a passenger trapped in the rear seat of one of th4e vehicles involved. FD personnel removed the rear door of the vehicle to gain access for Summit EMS. Summit EMS handled patient care for two patients. FD personnel remained on location until both vehicles were removed from the scene.
Aug 7, 2019 8:13 AM FD responded to the area of 198 BOAD STREET for a motor vehicle accident with entrapment and injuries. On arrival FD found a 2 car MVA. One driver was out of vehicle and FD began to check for injuries. Second driver was in vehicle and reported her door would not open. FD was able to open door without use of extrication tools and transferred the driver to SFAS for evaluation. Absorbent was applied to a fluid spill and FD waited for the tow company to remove the vehicle.
Aug 9, 2019 12:11 PM FD responded automatic aid to Millburn to 300 MILLBURN AVE for a structure fire. Summit FD was assigned to set up as the FIREFIGHTER ASSIST AND SERCH TEAM. On arrival Summit personnel were reassigned to stretch a backup hose line to the basement of the fire building and to split the crew to do a primary search in the attached apartments. A recall was transmitted for station coverage and an engine company was requested from county Mutual Aid to assist ion covering Summit Headquarters.
Aug 19, 2019 11:45 AM FD responded to SUMMIT AVENUE APPARTMENT complex on a commercial fire alarm. On arrival nothing was showing. An investigation found the elevator motor in building 145 overheated and began smoking causing fire alarm. Elevator repair personnel were on location and shut down power to the motor. FD personnel reset the fire alarm.
Aug 28, 2019 11:36 AM FD responded to the intersection of BLACKBURN ROAD and PROSPECT STREET for a motor vehicle accident with injury and air bag deployment. Fire personnel stabilized the vehicle and assisted Summit EMS with patient packaging.
Sept 2, 2019 10:07 AM FD responded to CHATHAM ROAD for a report of a car into a building. On arrival command was established with Summit Police on location. The fire department investigated and found a motor vehicle had hit the side of the building with no visual damage to building. The Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad established patient care. The vehicle was secured prior to arrival. The Summit Police released the fire department.
Sept 9, 2019 2:57 PM FD Responded to 12 MAIN ST in Millburn on an automatic aid request for a commercial structure fire. Arrived on scene and assisted setting up ventilation of building. Once the ventilation was complete, Summit was released from scene.
Sept 11, 2019 2:54 PM FD responded for a reported structure fire at a PROSPECT STREET medical facility. Millburn FD responded automatic aid as a FIREFIGHTER ASSISTANCE and SERACH TEAM. On arrival FD was directed to a large trash can on the exterior of the building. A fire had occurred, and had been extinguished by staff with a portable extinguisher as FD was arriving. On scene personnel did cause and origin investigation. The investigation found the cause to be accidental. The property was turned over to the facilities director for final clean up.
Sept 13, 2019 5:34 PM FD responded the intersection of BROAD STREET and SUMMIT AVENUE for the reported smoke coming from the garbage receptacle. Investigation revealed a small fire inside the garbage receptacle. Fire personnel extinguished the fire using water from a hose line. The fire was contained to the receptacle only.
Sept 16, 2019 10:53 AM FD responded to a BRAINERD ROAD residence on an activated fire alarm. On arrival FD found a light smoke condition in the house due to unattended cooking. FD vented the house and the homeowner reset alarm system.
Sept 18, 2019 8:11 AM FD responded to PASSIAC AVENUE for a motor vehicle accident with aid bag deployment. On arrival FD found Summit Police and the Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad on location. Squad established patient care. The fire department checked and secured both vehicles. The fire department assisted the first aid squad removing the patient from the vehicle. The fire department remained on location until released by the Summit Police.
Sept 22, 2019 9:34 PM FD responded on a medical aid dispatch to the area of 185 BROAD STREET near Natale's Bakery for a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. On arrival Summit Police and Summit FAS were on the scene attending to the patient. Summit FD assisted with patient transport and also assisted the Summit Police and Union County Police with their investigations
Sept 30, 2019 12:32PM FD responded to a SPRINGFIELD AVENUE building complex on an activated fire alarm. On arrival nothing showing and the building evacuated. The fire department investigated and found the cause to be from an overheated arching and smoking cell phone, iPhone 7 Plus. The fire alarm system was reset by the building superintendent.
