Pass It Along hosted Family Volunteer Day at the Sparta Evangelical Free Church. Volunteers and sponsor families crowded into the gymnasium on November 17 for a morning of giving back.
During the event, those who were enrolled to sponsor a family arrived between 10 a.m. until noon to drop-off their donations. Boxes, which were encouraged to be decorated at the event, were provided to gather the food donations for the selected family.
Several service projects also took place during Family Volunteer Day. Volunteers had the option to create dog toys for Father John’s Animal House, in Lafayette, write notes for Pass It Along’s ‘Note in a Coat’ Drive, bake cookies or create cards for children for Cards for Hospitalized Kids, located in Chicago.
Family Volunteer Day was started 24-years-ago by Points of Light, an affiliate partner of Pass It Along, as a way to kick-off the holiday season. Family Volunteer Week is a part of National Family Week, sponsored by the Alliance for Children and Families and the Annie E. Casey Foundation.
A number of sponsors supported the Family Day initiative, including Newton Medical Center, Atlantic Health Systems, The Orthopedic Institute of New Jersey and ThorLabs. Other sponsors of the event included Sutherland Packaging, Stop and Shop of Sparta and the Sparta Evangelical Free Church.
