LAFAYETTE, NJ  - Pass It Along, a local non-profit organization based in Lafayette, New Jersey, has recently partnered with Rivers Edge Horse Rescue and Sanctuary, based in Newton, New Jersey. The facility was established in 2010 by Diane Romano-Potocki, who currently still owns and manages the property and the sanctuary. Her mission is to rescue abandoned, unwanted and slaughter-bound horses, and provide them with the proper living conditions to carry out a healthy, peaceful life.

“Taking on this mission has certainly been a labor of love for her and we are happy to be part of such a passionate service,” says Karen Baldini, Programs Manager for Pass It Along,  “Her values are consistent with our program’s mission including helping those who cannot help themselves.”

Since it’s inception in 2001, Pass It Along has documented 265,155 total volunteer hours, engaging thousands of volunteers in ongoing and annual service projects centered on literacy, neighborhood revitalization, homelessness, hunger, poverty and disaster relief.

Rivers Edge Horse Rescue and Sanctuary offers a variety of volunteer opportunities, open to all individuals of any age. Teenagers under the age of 15 are required to be accompanied by a parent or guardian when visiting at the horse rescue, however, those between the ages of 15 and 18 are required to get permission from a parent or guardian. Participants are required to dress appropriately and wear closed-toed shoes.

Volunteer opportunities include cleaning stalls, feeding the horses and assisting with the rehabilitation of the sanctuary horses. Assistance is also needed with administrative and clerical work, as well as fundraising and photography.

“I think its going to help us grow our volunteer-based programs, help the animals and help the rescue grow,” says Romano-Potocki, “It has been great so far having Pass It Along work with us, and we eagerly await more positive things in the future.”

Romano-Potocki opens her volunteer opportunities to all members of the community, and is currently developing specialized services to specific demographics, including veterans.

“We want to help veterans, not only just male veterans, but also a specialized program for females. There is not much out there available for women; just as much as men are beneficial, so are women.”

Rivers Edge Horse Rescue and Sanctuary is holding an open house on Sunday,  July 14, 2019 from 12:00pm-5:00pm. The event is free, and open to the public, offering the chance to meet the horses, as well as enjoy food, music and crafts.
