Smartphones and tablets are everywhere these days, and they have become essential tools for getting information and staying connected. It’s no longer enough for a library to serve only the patrons who walk through the front door (although we do love to see you). We need to be accessible to our community members even when they’re out on the go. So, back in June, the Scotch Plains Public Library launched its SPPL Mobile app, available for any type of mobile device, on both the Apple and Android platforms.
If you have not downloaded our app yet, read on to find out all the great things it includes. If you have been using our app, we’d love to know how it’s working for you. You can download SPPL Mobile at http://scotlib.boopsie.com/ or from our website, where you can also find a link to our online survey about how useful the app has been for you.
With the mobile app, you can check our catalog and your account, and put books on hold. There is a link to OverDrive which gives you access to ebooks and audiobooks from eLibraryNJ. This is perfect for grabbing a last-minute read no matter where you are (for example, holiday road trips). Another unique feature is BookLook – scan the barcode of any book to see if the library owns that edition – for when you want to try before you buy. The Library Locator will give you directions to the library and our hours. With the Ask Us feature you can call or email the library with your questions; and you can register for a program, after checking our Events list on the app of course. Finally, if you haven’t liked us on Facebook or followed us on Twitter yet (why not?), you can use the app to keep track of those feeds.
With so much going on at the library, especially our upcoming Big Read program with events for all ages, the mobile app is a great way to make sure you don’t miss a moment.
Our next step with SPPL Mobile is to add some of our databases. Whether you want to read magazine articles or get some homework help, all you’ll need is your library card number and our app!
SPPL Mobile was developed for the Scotch Plains Public Library by Boopsie, Inc. Funding for this Mobile Project Initiative was provided by LibraryLinkNJ, The New Jersey Library Cooperative whose services are funded by the New jersey State Library, which is responsible for the coordination, promotion, and funding of the New Jersey Library Network.
