So, will you be going for the full dinner with all the trimmings, or are you going the Charlie Brown route of toast, popcorn & pretzel sticks? Which football game will you be watching? And who’ll get stuck washing the dishes? Feel free to ponder those questions as we look at news from South Plainfield Library:
First, be advised of our schedule changes. We’ll be closing early at 6PM on Wednesday (Nov. 23rd), and we’ll be closed all day on Thursday (Nov. 24th) and Friday (Nov. 25th) in observance of Thanksgiving. We’ll re-open on Saturday (Nov. 26th).
We’ll have a cultural program Saturday afternoon from 1-3PM. It’s a program on the Indian Festival of Lights, including Bollywood dance lessons led by Ms. Varsha of Navrang Dance Company. The program is best suited for children age 3 & over, and is being presented free. Pre-registration is required. We’ll be holding this program just down the street at the Senior Center, located at 90 Maple Ave.
Opposite that program, we’ll be hosting a program at the Library featuring author/private detective David B. Watts. He’ll be talking about his book, Accidental P.I. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing. No pre-registration is required.
We’ll have an abbreviated schedule of our children’s programs next week, along an extra one. Tomorrow (Saturday), we’ll have our “Saturday Storytime” for all ages at 11AM. On Sunday, we’ll have our next “Super Science Sunday” program, for kids in 2nd Grade and up, at 3PM. They’ll be talking about chemical reactions, and volcanoes will be made. On Monday, the “Kid’s Book Club”, for children age 8-10, will meet at 6:30PM. Participants will be talking about More Perfect Than the Moon by Patricia MacLachlan. On Tuesday, we’ll have the week’s only “Storytime” program, for children age 3 & over, at 10:30AM, followed by the “Puzzles & Games Playtime” at 11:30. And on Wednesday, we’ll have this week’s “Toddler Time” program, for children age 2 & 3, at 10:30AM. You don’t need to sign up for any of these programs.
And we have a program for young people next week. On Monday, the “LEGO Science League”, for young people age 13-18, will meet at 3PM to continue working on their group projects. For more details on these programs, please ask Miss Mija or Miss Audrey.
“Job Search Skills Coaching”, provided by Professional Service Group of New Brunswick, will be available again on Monday from 1-4PM. The sessions are by appointment only, so you must call ahead to sign up.
The next “Monday Night Movie” will be shown on, of course, Monday night at 6:30. The movie is presented free of charge, avoiding the need to log onto Fandango or some other site. No pre-registration is required, and we’ll provide the popcorn. Please call for title and content information. We can say that it’s a survival thriller starring Blake Lively and a shark. (No, Spielberg didn’t direct this one.) The movie will be shown again on Wednesday afternoon at 12:15.
We’ve got room this week for an advisory from our Notary. It seems that, in our increasingly multi-lingual society, he has unfortunately remained semi-fluent in only English. After checking on current state regulations, he’s not permitted to ask someone else to act as a translator for him. So, as a result, he’s only able to notarize documents for those who are also able to speak and understand English sufficiently enough to participate in the process. He apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause.
That’s about all for now. If you have any questions, please give us a call at (908) 754-7885. You can also find more information on our website at www.southplainfield.lib.nj.us or on our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/southplainfieldlibrary. Thanks very much, and we wish you all a happy and safe Thanksgiving Holiday.
