It’s that time when we all reflect on what has happened in the past year and what we hope for in the next. It is hard to believe that it was only this past February when we opened the doors of the renovated library. Since then, thousands of people have come in to attend programs, use the quiet study rooms, the Wi-Fi, and the computers. They’ve borrowed over 120,000 items. They were entertained, educated, and they expanded their world all at one place--at their library.
What was your favorite part of your year at the library? We’d love to hear from you. Your input will help us make the next year better than ever. We are looking forward to classes on meditation, music, and more, author talks, craft programs, movies, book clubs, story times and all the wonderful programming you've come to expect. We hope to see you often!
The new year is a time when many people make resolutions and plans to improve their lives and the library is ready to support you. Want to be more fit? You'll find exercise videos and magazines to help. Ready to put your life in order? Look for books on decluttering and organization. Other resolutions will find support from CDs and software for learning a new language or databases, newspapers and books to help you be better informed. And as always, there are plenty of books, movies and games for your entertainment and educational interests.
If you love talking about what you are reading, consider joining one of our book clubs. There is a new club starting for teens ages 13 and up. The next meeting is January 19 at 7:00. Come in before then to find out what they are reading. They discuss books in all different genres—come in and find out when your favorite is coming up, or stretch your mind and read something new.
We’ve got two general literature groups (the second Tuesday and the fourth Thursday of each month at 4:00) and a group dedicated to mysteries. It meets the first Wednesday of the month—in January, on the 4—also at 4. New members are always welcome.
Interest has been expressed in a book club to discuss classic literature and plays. If you would like to join the group, please contact Eve at the library.
Story times and other children’s programs resume the week of January 3. The first movie for January is on the 9th. It involves a pilot who makes an emergency landing – but everyone survives. The second showing will be on Wednesday, January 11 at 12:30. Please note the new time for the afternoon movies.
Would you like to learn to meditate? Learn to reduce stress and anxiety with 'Tong-Gong Healing Art of Moving Meditation.' Tong-Gong is based on Oriental medicine, and has been developed as a method for aiding in the alleviation of illness and strengthening the body. The exercises lead to balance of mind, body, and spirit. The class will be presented by Zen monk Ven. Myong-Ahn of the Soshimsa Zen Center. This program is offered twice: Thursday, January 12 at 6:30 and Saturday, January 28th at 1:00 PM. Please sign up for one session only - the same program will be presented on both dates.
