Time for some news from South Plainfield Library:

We’ll start with next week’s children’s programs, and there are quite a lot of them.  On Saturday, we have the “Saturday Storytime” for all ages at 11AM.  Then, on Sunday, there’s this month’s “Super Sunday Science” program at 3PM.  It’s for children age 8 & over, and the kids will be doing winter-themed activities.  (Pre-registration is requested for this program.)  On both Monday and Thursday, there’s the “LEGO Builders Club” for children age 7-12 at 3:30PM; we’ll supply the LEGO items.  (Double-decker couch not included.)  And at 6:30PM, there’s the “Kid’s Corner Book Club” for children age 8-10.  Participants will be talking about Gooseberry Park and the Master Plan by Cynthia Rylant.
Moving along, our “Storytime” programs for children age 3 & over will be held on Tuesday at 10:30AM, Wednesday at 6:30PM and Thursday at 1:15PM.  Right after the Tuesday “Storytime”, there’s the “Puzzle & Game Playtime”, also for children age 3 & over, at 11:30AM.  On Wednesday and Thursday at 10:30AM, we have our “Toddler Time” program for children age 2 & 3.  Later on Wednesday, there’s the “Life-Size Board Games” program for kids age 9 & over.  (No, we won’t be playing Monopoly with an actual jail.) Moving to Thursday, there’s the “Beginner’s Book Club” meeting at 6:30PM for children age 6-8.  And on Friday morning we have our two “Babytime” programs for children age 2 & under: “Babytime Uno”, for children who can’t walk on their own at 10:15AM, and “Babytime Dos”, for children age who can walk on their own at 11:15AM.
Now that’s a lot to get through, and you may want more information.  If so, please call us and ask for Miss Mija or Miss Audrey.  See below for our number.

Moving to the adult programming, we’re still offering Job Search Skills Coaching on Monday at 1PM, presented by the Professional Service Group of New Brunswick.  It’s free of charge, but it’s by appointment only.

This week’s “Monday Night Movie” will be shown on Monday at 6:30PM.  It’s being presented free; no pre-registration is needed.  If you miss the Monday showing, it’ll be shown again on Wednesday afternoon at the new time of 12:30PM.  Please check with us for title and content information.  We can say that it’s a fact-based movie starring Rachel Weisz about a libel trial involving the Holocaust.

We have two meetings set for Thursday.  At 4PM, the “Thursday Book Club” will meet to discuss The Circle by Dave Eggars.  No pre-registration is required for this meeting.  Then, at 7PM, the Friends of the Library will have their monthly meeting.  Both members and non-members may attend.

And on Saturday, January 28th, we’ll be re-presenting the Tong-Gong Meditation program at 1PM.  It’ll be led by Ven. Myong-Anh of the Soshima Zen Center.  Space is limited, so pre-registration is required.

We have room for a couple of advisories.  First, we’re still in the middle of winter (though it may not feel like it some days).  There may (and, indeed, have) been times when we’ve had to close early or not open at all.  If that should happen, we’ll make sure you’re kept informed of the situation.  Notice of our closing will be posted on our website (both on the homepage and the calendar) and our Facebook page.  It will also be included on the weather closing list on the websites of WCTC (1450 AM) and NJ 101.5FM (though we can’t guarantee it’ll be announced on the air).  If you’re not sure if we’re open, check with those sources.  And if we are closed, feel free to kick back with some hot chocolate until it’s time to start shoveling.

And second, if you need to leave a message on our voice mail, please be sure to speak very clearly.  Please include your name (spelling it out would be very helpful), the date & time of your call, and your library card number, if it’s handy.  This way we can make sure to avoid any misunderstanding.

That’s about all for now.  For more information, please call us at (908) 754-7885.  You may also check our website at www.southplainfield.lib.nj.us, or you can check our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/southplainfieldlibrary.  Thanks for reading, and we hope your new year is off to a good start.  And try to remember to stop putting “2016” on your checks.
