Come join us at the library for Monday Night Movies! On January 8 at 6:30 PM, we will be showing a new historical drama based on the evacuation of Dunkirk during WWII. If you cannot make it to our Monday night showing, it will also be shown on Wednesday, January 10 at 12:30 PM. The movie is rated PG-13.
On Sunday, January 7 at 2:30 PM, Ms. Jailene will be presenting a Bilingual Storytime for ages 2 to 6. Come enjoy stories, rhymes, and songs in both Spanish and English. There will be another Bilingual Storytime on Monday, January 8 at 1:30 PM; this one is presented in Mandarin Chinese and English.
Mr. Scott is coming back to South Plainfield! On Wednesday, January 10 at 6:30 PM, Mr. Scott will be at the South Plainfield Senior Center (90 Maple Ave) for his interactive sing along. Registration is not required. In lieu of an admission charge, adults should bring a new, unopened non-perishable food item or personal hygiene product for each person attending. Donations will be given to the South Plainfield Food Pantry.
On Thursday, January 11 at 7 PM, Michael Crismali from Alterra Home Loans will present the workshop Achieve the Dream of Home Ownership, which will explore some of the key reasons why people hesitate to begin the process of purchasing a new home. He will discuss common misconceptions about obtaining a mortgage, and review some of the do's and don'ts once you've decided to move forward. He will also provide an overview of the timeline of the home buying process from contract to closing. Registration is required.
Babytimes on Friday, January 12 are canceled. However, we will be having a Drive-in Movie Craft that afternoon at 3 PM. Bring a box big enough to sit in, and we will have all the supplies you need to turn it into a cool car that you can use while watching a movie!
In addition to all of our special programs, don’t forget to stop by for some of our regular children’s programming! There are storytimes for 2’s & 3’s Wednesday and Thursday at 10:30 AM, storytimes for 3 and older Tuesday at 10:30 AM and Thursday at 1:15 PM, and Family Storytime on Saturday at 10:30 AM for all ages. Lego Builder’s Club meets on Mondays and Thursdays at 3 PM. Ms. Mija has added another Puzzles and Games to the children’s calendar; on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11:30 AM, right after the storytimes, bring your children to enjoy some play time. Meditation and Mindfulness with Ms. Aimee meets on Wednesday at 7:45 PM; it is for children 7-12 years old. There is also Chess Club at 11:30 AM on Saturday, January 13 for ages 6 and up and all ability levels.
Pizza & Pages: Young Adult Book Club will be meeting on Thursday, January 18 at 3:30 PM to discuss Hatchet by Gary Paulsen and/or Fever 1793 by Laurie Halse Anderson while enjoying some pizza. You can choose to read one or both of the selections. Copies are available at the adult reference desk. This book club is intended for 7th graders and up, but books can be chosen that are appropriate for 5th and 6th graders as well.
