The South Plainfield Public Library will be closed this Sunday, May 27 and Monday, May 28 due to Memorial Day. Because of the holiday, there will be no movie showing this week on Monday evening or Wednesday afternoon. Monday Night Movies will resume the week of June 4, with a newly released selection.

Ms. Jailene is having two special programs on Saturdays in June. On June 2, from 11 AM – 1 PM, the South Plainfield Police Department will be at the library to speak about safety. Intended for all ages, individuals will also be able to go outside and see the emergency vehicles. On June 9, from 11 AM – 1 PM, the South Plainfield Fire Department will be here as well; yes, there will be a fire truck!
For the week of June 11, all storytimes and regularly scheduled programs are canceled. There will still be some extra special programs that week, so be sure to check the calendar to see what is scheduled. For the week of June 18, all children’s programs are canceled as we prepare for the Summer Reading Program. Regular children’s programming will resume Monday, July 2.
Summer Reading Registration begins Monday, June 25 and continues throughout the summer. There are programs for all ages: babies, school age, teens, and adults. For the Children’s and Teen Summer Reading Programs, check-in for weekly prizes begins Monday, July 2. All you have to do is record the books read in booklets that are provided! It is a fun way to encourage kids to read. There are bigger prizes the more books you read! And don’t worry if you miss a week or two- we will make sure you get all the prizes you missed!
Since summer is right around the corner, it’s the perfect time to learn a new language! Check out the Rosetta Stone Language Learning database on the library’s website (under the databases tab). You have many languages to choose from, and Rosetta Stone provides an interactive approach to teaching you whichever language you’ve chosen. You can access Rosetta Stone on one of the library computers, from the comfort of your own home, or from some sandy beach! All you need is your library barcode number, and you can get started learning a new language.
