Come join us Monday, August 13 at 6:30 PM for Monday Night Movies. This week’s selection is a horror drama starring John Krasinski and Emily Blunt. Their characters are husband and wife, and they are trying to protect their family from monsters with super sensitive hearing. It is rated PG-13. If you cannot make it to the Monday night showing, there is a second screening on Wednesday, August 15 at 12:30 PM.
On Saturday, August 11 at 10 AM and Tuesday, August 14 at 2 PM, join Ms. Mija for a Special Needs Sensory Storytime. It is intended for preschool to young adult aged individuals with special needs. This special storytime will be presented in a way that will make it more comfortable for participants than they would be at one of the standard storytimes.
Georges Seurat: An Armchair Art Tour presented by Dr. Michael Norris will be Saturday, August 11 at 2 PM; registration is required. A Parisian who knew Normandy, Seurat created pictures based on the latest scientific vision research of his time, including Pointilism, a technique of placing daubs of paint close together. This is the first in a series of 4 talks on Post-Impressionists. Future talks will cover Vincent Van Gogh (September 8), Paul Gauguin (October 20), and Paul Cézanne (November 10).
Chair Yoga for adults will be Monday, August 13 at 2 PM. Please bring a yoga mat so your chair does not slide. There is limited space, so please register by stopping by the circulation desk or calling us at (908) 754-7885 ext 2.
Anime Club for ages 10 and older will be held on Wednesday, August 15 at 3 PM. Your Lie in April will be the anime that is screened that day.
Join us for some Super Bubble Fun Time at the Senior Center Wednesday, August 15 at 6:30 PM! Bubbleologist Dom will be on hand to create everything from the smallest of spheres to bubbles big enough to stand in - an interactive bubble bonanza! Special thanks to the Suburban Women's Club of South Plainfield for sponsoring this program. Please consider bringing an unopened non-perishable food item or personal care product to donate to the South Plainfield Food Pantry.
On Thursday, August 16 at 6:30 PM, join Ms. Jackie for a Creative Collage craft. This is intended for ages 6 and up; space and supplies are limited so please register by stopping by the Children’s Room or calling (908) 754-7885 ext 4.
Drive-in Movie is back again for a second time this summer! On Friday, August 17 at 1 PM, bring a box large enough for your child to sit in. Supplies will be provided to make the box look like a car. When all is finished, they can enjoy a movie in their boxcar. After the movie, at 4:30 PM, join Ms. Mija for Scissor Skills for Pre-schoolers. No registration is required for either of these programs.
There is a second Yoga event for adults this week on Saturday, August 18 at 2 PM. This is not chair yoga like the session earlier this week. Don’t forget to stop by for our regularly scheduled children’s programs! Storytime for 2’s and 3’s is Wednesday and Thursday at 10:30 AM, storytime for 3 and older is Tuesday at 10:30 AM and Thursday at 1:15 PM, and Babytime for babies under 2 is Friday at 10:15 AM and 11:15 AM. Puzzles and Games meets Tuesday and Thursday at 11:30 AM (right after storytime!). Lego Club meets on Mondays and Thursdays at 3 PM.
Saturday, August 18 is the last day to check-in for the Children and Teen Summer Reading Programs. The Adult Summer Reading Program is still going on- the raffle drawing will be held the week of September 3.
All children’s programs are canceled from August 19 until October 1, as we prepare for our special fall events! However, there will be a special Scope Night program for ages 5 and up on Wednesday, August 22 at 7 PM held in the parking lot behind the library. John Miller of the Pearl Observatory will be on hand to teach us about the wonders of the night sky. Using telescopes, we will explore the mountains on the Moon, the clouds of Jupiter and more! You may bring your own telescope if you have one. No registration is required for this star-gazing event.
