Monday Night Movies are back! Come join us Monday, September 10 at 6:30 PM for this week’s newest release starring Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen, and Mary Steenburgen. Four lifelong friends are part of a book club, and their lives change when they decide to read Fifty Shades of Grey. It is rated PG-13. If you cannot make it to the Monday night showing, there is a second screening on Wednesday, September 12 at 12:30 PM.
Would you like to prepare for the SAT? On Saturday, September 8 from 10 AM – 1 PM, 9th to 11th graders are invited to register for a free SAT Practice Test. Vincent van Gogh: An Armchair Art Tour presented by Dr. Michael Norris will be Saturday, September 8 at 2 PM; registration is required. Pastor and painter Vincent van Gogh produced more than 2,000 works of art in his last decade. Van Gogh wrote to his brother Theo that, as he had no children, he viewed his paintings as his progeny. Let's explore some of these ‘brilliant children,’ especially those at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This is the second in a series of four talks on Post-Impressionists. Future talks will cover Paul Gauguin (October 20) and Paul Cézanne (November 10).
Trying to figure out if you should take the SAT or the ACT or both? Then come to our program College Prep: ACT vs SAT on Thursday, September 13 at 5 PM to find out which test is right for you. There will be a presentation explaining and demystifying the two different exams. This program is for 9th to 11th graders and registration is required. Please join Jim Rose, retired executive with Johnson & Johnson and longtime meditator, for his engaging and informative workshop Meditation for a More Peaceful and Healthy Life and learn to incorporate a simple yet powerful technique into your life. On Saturday, September 15 at 2 PM, join yoga teacher Theresa Jefferson for Integral Yoga. Integral Yoga practice can help you focus your mind, strengthen your body, increase your flexibility, and improve your quality of life. The annual Friends of the Library Book and Bake Sale is coming! Starting on Saturday, September 22 at 9 AM and going until Saturday, September 29, come by the library and see the selection of books, DVDs, and CDs the Friends will have to offer. The Bake Sale will only be the first day of the Book Sale, Saturday, September 22. See what goodies people have baked to sell! We are still collecting donations for the Bake Sale, so if you’d like to donate baked goods, please call us or stop by the circulation desk to sign up. Book, DVD, and CD donations will continue until Friday, September 14. Please make sure the items you are donating are in good condition- not dusty, yellowed, stained, or scratched (if they are DVDs and CDs). If you have a lot of items to donate, please call ahead to make sure we can accommodate what you are donating.
After you are done searching for books at the Book Sale, head on over to the Senior Center (90 Maple Ave) for a special cultural event. On Saturday, September 22 from 12 PM – 3 PM, join Ms. Jailene and Ms. Mija for the library’s inaugural event to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month. There will be a live dance performance, followed by some delicious food from local restaurants in our town. It is open to all ages. No registration is required.
Please keep in mind all Children’s Programs are canceled until September 30. The regular children’s schedule will resume Monday, October 1. Keep an eye out for the calendar coming later this month!
