Come join us for Monday Night Movies! On Monday, December 17 at 6:30 PM, we will be showing the new release based on Laura Hillenbrand’s novel Unbroken. This movie continues where the first one left off, following Louis Zamperini after he returns home from years of torture during World War II. If you cannot make it to the Monday night showing, there is a second screening on Wednesday, December 19 at 12:30 PM.
Don’t forget to stop by the library this weekend! Join Ms. Stella on Sunday, December 16 at 2:30 PM for Super Science Sunday. Intended for children ages 8 and older, Super Science Sunday meets once a month and engages children in hands-on activities and experiments to learn more about different scientific concepts. This month’s program will involve microbiology and germs. Children will learn why washing their hands is so important and will explore how products like hand sanitizer help keep germs in check. Registration is not required for this program.
Are you looking to improve your English conversation skills? Native speakers of all languages are invited to join us at one of our English Conversation Groups. There are three groups you are welcome to join. One meets on Mondays at 10:30 AM, and another meets on Thursdays at 1 PM. The third group that meets on Thursday at 7 PM will hold its last meeting on December 20. Check the calendar for all the meeting times and potential cancellations.
Ms. Stella has a program on Monday, December 17 as well. Girls, Goodies, and Great Adventures will meet at 3:30 PM to discuss the book Little House in the Big Woods by Laura Ingalls Wilder. This book club is for girls ages 8 to 12. Please read the selection before the meeting, and come ready to discuss it while enjoying some yummy snacks! Copies of the book are available at the Reference Desk. Ms. Stella also has a book club for boys ages 8 to 12 called Boys, Books, and Bagels. It has already met this month, but if you are interested, keep an eye out for next month’s schedule and feel free to speak to Ms. Stella.
Join Ms. Mija this Tuesday, December 18 at 3:30 PM for a Pony Bead Ornament Craft. Registration is required, and children must be ages 5 and older. Ms. Mija will be showing them how to make holiday-themed ornaments with pipe cleaners and pony beads. Chill Zone is back! For students ages 10 and older, Chill Zone meets on Wednesday, December 19 at 3 PM. It is a chance for students to hang out after school, do homework, and just chill. Registration is not required.
On Wednesday, December 19 at 6:30 PM, we are having an extra special storytime! Come dressed in your pajamas for a ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas Pajama Party Storytime.
Pizza & Pages: Young Adult Book Club for 7th graders and older will meet Thursday, December 20 at 3:30 PM. We will be discussing Zeroes by Scott Westerfeld while enjoying some pizza. Copies of the book are available at the Reference Desk.
Come meet local author Garland Wright II on Thursday, December 20 at 6:30 PM as he reads his book Chimpsee Makes the Perfect Mistake. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing. This is intended for ages 7 and up.
Because of the early dismissal on Friday, December 21, the library will be showing a holiday movie for tweens at 2 PM. The title of the movie will be voted on at the time of the program; all choices are rated PG. We will also be serving popcorn as we enjoy the winning movie!
This will be the last week until the new year that we will be having our regularly programmed storytimes. Spanish Storytime meets Monday, December 17 at 6:30 PM, and Chinese Storytime meets Thursday, December 20 at 4:30 PM. Storytime for 3 and older meets Tuesday at 10:30 AM, Time for 2’s & 3’s meets Wednesday and Thursday at 10:30 AM, and Babytime for 2 and under meets Friday at 10:15 AM and 11:15 AM and Saturday at 10 AM. Puzzles & Games meets Tuesday and Thursday at 11:30 AM (right after storytime!), and Lego Club meets on Thursday at 3:30 PM. Remember to check the calendar and the website to see about any changes to the schedule.
Please keep in mind that if you are participating in the Angel Tree that all gifts are due in by Monday, December 17 by 9 PM. Gifts should be new and unwrapped; please return the tag with the gift as well.
