The South Plainfield Softball Team has made it to the semi-finals of the Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament. The Lady Tigers defeated Dunellen 4-0 in the opening round. On Saturday, South Plainfield upset third seed Monroe 1-0 in the quarterfinals to set up a rematch against John F. Kennedy. The success on the season is due in part to the pitching of senior Jillian Holoboski.
On the season, Jillian has a 17-4 record. She has pitched 139 innings and has 120 strikeouts with only 21 walks. Jillian has held her opponents to only 27 runs while pitching to an impressive 1.36 earn run average. During this past week, she had two more shutouts on the season. Against Dunellen, she pitched the entire game, striking out six while only giving up three hits. Then against Monroe, Jillian, threw another complete game, striking out nine while only allowing one hit. South Plainfield will rely on Jillian’s leadership for the remainder of the season.
