Marisa Palmer is not just a mompreneur – she’s one whose business supports other mompreneurs. Not only is everyone who works at Marisa’s Livingston, NJ-based store, Just a Dream, a mompreneur – many of the vendors she works with are mompreneurs too.
“We like to say we have ‘girl power’ here,” says Marisa.
Marisa says she loves being a mompreneur.
“I love the balance it brings,” she says.
She left a corporate job in fashion to start a kids’ party styling business for two years, prior to Just a Dream. She describes her store as a “one-stop-shop for today’s parents offering a curated selection of what’s best and cool, with a hip and trendy city vibe.”
“There aren’t any stores like this in the area,” she says. “Coming here is an experience and kids don’t want to leave.”
The store is new, exciting, fresh and colorful. It’s a fun environment featuring a vinyl bar, graffiti art, and neon lights and a wall filled with rolls of stickers.
Just a Dream carries popular brands like Stoney Clover Lane, sought-after products from artist, Robyn Blair, gorgeous tabletop books from Assouline, and must-have State & Bari Lynn backpacks, custom acrylic products, hand-painted items, and up-and-coming jewelry designers. Marisa says it’s very important to her to stock the store with new items.
“There is always something new to see every time you shop,” she adds. “People can come in on a Monday and see new items on Wednesday.”
“As a mom of three, I know how hard it can be to stay on trend for my kids,” she adds. “So, we do the work for our customers. We comb through endless catalogs, attend all of the gift shows and meet with the latest trendsetters to ensure that we are bringing our customers the coolest and trendiest gifts that no one in our local area carries.”
“Our hand-painted step stools, growth charts, ride-on toys and more are classic Just A Dream offerings,” says Marisa. “We specialize in baby shower gifts, children's birthday gifts, party favors, and home décor. We also love helping new parents create the ultimate baby registry.”
She adds, “Our goal is to inspire our customers to find the perfect gift for any person. Because you can personalize virtually everything in the store, your recipient knows that you’ve taken the time to select and customize a special gift just for them. It’s that feeling that keeps our customers coming back. Part of our stand-out strategy has also been to pair art with technology to allow shoppers to choose from hundreds of personalized gift options that they can walk out with that day. That way, we’ve removed any anxiety about last-minute gifts.”
