“Creatures of the Night: The Bats of New Jersey” with the Scotch Plains Public Library

On Tuesday, October 26 at 7 pm, join Conserve Wildlife Foundation biologist Ethan Gilardi on a lively Zoom talk exploring common myths and misconceptions about bats, spotlighting the current threats to New Jersey’s bats, and discussing what you can do to help them.

Often stereotyped as sinister and dangerous, bats are among the most beneficial animals for humans! They provide free pest control (a little brown bat can eat 3,000 insects a night) and indirectly help our health, agriculture, and water quality.

Today many of New Jersey’s bats are struggling to survive. Fifteen years ago a fungus attacked hibernating bats, leading to a disease known as white-nose syndrome. The disease disrupts hibernation, causing bats to use up their vital energy needed to survive the winter.
