Learning the facts and events of New Jerseys' history on a daily basis will be the topic of Fred T. Rossi as he presents his historic 2013 JERZEY CALENDAR at the First Wednesday Luncheon of the Westfield Historical Society. The luncheon will be held at noon, Wednesday, December 5, at the Echo Lake Country Club, 515 Springfield Avenue, Westfield.
With the 350th anniversary of the founding of New Jersey only a little over a year away, Rossi’s presentation of his 2013 JERZEY CALENDAR couldn’t be more timely. Rossi, a financial advisor and freelance journalist, says he spent 16 years researching all 365 days of Jersey history and part of the past decade conceiving and designing his masterpiece wall calendar, which he says “brings together my love of history and trivia with my affection for my home state, warts and all.”
In his 2012 JERSEY CALENDAR, Rossi revealed a slice of the date’s state history ranging from today’s milestones to celebrity and pop culture facts to the just plain strange. The events in his 2012 calendar stretched as far back as 1524 when Giovanni da Verrazano passed the Highlands on his way into what is now New York Harbor. The calendar also included Governor Chris Christie’s decision not to run for president. In between were date-specific references to numerous Revolutionary War events, the discovery of Teflon, the invention of the boardwalk, numerous milestones in the early days of aviation plus a variety of feats, oddities and scandals that have helped shape the Garden State’s history.
Rossi, who sells his calendars for $20, will have some on hand for those who wish to make a purchase at the end of the program.
All those wishing to attend the luncheon are asked to make a reservation by calling (908) 233-2930 by noon, Monday, December 3. The cost of the luncheon is $21 for members and $26 for non-members, including gratuity.
Please note that the next luncheon will be held on Wednesday, January 9th.
