LUPE Fund, Inc. to Co-Host Census 2020 Public Information Session in Union County

(Elizabeth, NJ) The U.S. Census Bureau New York Regional Office is collaborating with LUPE Fund, Inc., Tu Apoyo Latino, Organizing for Action, and Union County College in an effort to educate the community and ensure a fair and accurate census. The free information session will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Union County College in the Lessner Building, located at 40 W. Jersey Street in Elizabeth, NJ.

As an organization that is committed to advancing the Latino community, LUPE Fund has partnered with the U.S. Census Bureau as part of a massive outreach effort to increase census participation and provide accurate information to our communities. Latinos are one of the fastest growing populations in the United States and it is essential that local communities understand that participation is essential in order to ensure an accurate and successful census count.

Although the 2020 census is one of the most consequential counts of this century, many people are unaware of its economic, social and political impacts. Participating in the census helps determine how federal funds, grants and support are allocated towards health, education, infrastructure, housing, transportation and employment in our states, counties and communities. In an effort to achieve an accurate count of all residents, LUPE Fund is targeting hard to reach communities and is determined to engage with Latino families throughout New Jersey to ensure that billions of dollars in federal funds are distributed effectively.

“LUPE Fund would like to provide a safe environment where members in the community are able to discuss any issues or concerns with trusted community leaders. It is extremely important that Latinos participate in the census in order to ensure that our democracy remains fair to all,” stated Sara Peña, President of LUPE Fund.

LUPE Fund is a non-profit 501c3 organization whose mission is to Educate, Empower and Engage Latinas to promote leadership and civic engagement. The goal of LUPE Fund is to promote an increase of Latinas in civic leadership by providing scholarships, educational programs, mentorship, and networking opportunities at a local and statewide level. The organization is committed to collaborating with other women’s and children’s organizations on issues of common interest such as education, health and economic development in an effort to advance the Latino community.
