Nature Journaling

Local wildlife artist Jennifer Miller, the 2015/2016 Federal Duck Stamp artist and a Pfeiffer Nature Center volunteer, will will speak about the ideas behind nature journaling, demonstrate how to observe natural objects, and encourage the group to do some nature journaling on the spot.

Nature drawing is the act of going outdoors and recording personal observations about nature (anything from a sweeping landscape to a tiny mushroom) though the use of drawings and notes. The end result is personal enjoyment, learning, and growth as an observer of the natural world.

Anyone can enjoy nature journaling, regardless of artistic skill. It has been proven that drawing observed objects (regardless of skill) generates greater memory responses in the brain.

Participants should sketchbooks, journals, or lined or unlined notepads, along with favorite drawing tools (pencil, pen, etc). Supplies will not be provided.

Fees are $10 for non-members, $5 for members, and free for children under 14. Minors must be accompanied by an adult. Registration by 4 p.m. is requested. Sign-ups can be done on the center's Programs Calendar on the website or call the office at 716-933-0187.
