NOVEMBER IS PANCREATIC CANCER AWARENESS MONTH

IT’S TIME TO LEARN MORE!

 

SAINT PETER’S UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 12 from 10 AM - NOON

WHAT: Saint Peter’s University Hospital, which has earned a “High Performing Hospitals” rating for Gastroenterology and GI Surgery from U.S. News and World Report, hosts an educational forum that explores the advances in the management of patients with a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. Andrew Korman, MD, gastroenterologist and pancreatic disease specialist at Saint Peter’s University Hospital, will discuss:

  • Use of Endoscopic Ultrasound with Fine Aspiration (EUS with FNA) to identify and diagnose patients
  • Pain management – how the opioid crisis has impacted pain treatment for patients, what options are available
  • Genetics and pancreatic cancer – who is at risk
  • Screening protocols
  • Updates in immunotherapy

Important Stats:

  • Pancreatic cancer is anticipated to become the second leading cause of cancer-related death in the U.S. by approximately 2020
  • More than 56,700 Americans will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer this year.
  • It’s hard to diagnose pancreatic cancer in its earlier, more treatable stages.
  • Pancreatic cancer symptoms are so subtle, people may ignore them.
  • Each pancreatic cancer tumor is different which may affect treatment options.

Prior to lunch, members of the community are invited to “Walk with the Doc” at Buccleuch Park across the street from the hospital. The walk with Dr. Korman, being held in conjunction with the Middlesex County Office of Health Services, will take place from 9:30 AM – 10:15 AM and departs from the Gazebo in Buccleuch Park.
