Scotch Plains Public Library to Host Genealogy 101 via Zoom

On Tuesday, October 5 at 6:30 pm, join the Scotch Plains Public Library for a virtual program to learn how to get started the right way in your genealogical research. Guest speaker, April Earle, will share her best tips for staying organized and searching databases like Ancestry.com and FamilySearch.org. In addition to dismissing some of the most common myths about genealogy research, we will look at the significance of census records, the importance of seeing the actual document, and uncover the secrets in plain sight on passenger lists.

April Lynne Earle is a librarian. She is a member of the Library Faculty at Farmingdale State College, a college of technology in the State University of New York (SUNY) system. In addition to her primary role as the cataloger, she provides reference service and information literacy instruction. She received both her Masters in Library Science and Master of Arts in Public History from St. John’s University, where she now teaches their Library Science course on Genealogical Sources & Services. With over 30 years of personal genealogy research experience, her real joy is helping others discover their family history. She hopes her work helps people connect to the past in a more personal way through the stories of those who have gone before us.

Registration is required to receive the Zoom link for this virtual program.
