Summertime Fun and Games

Kids of all ages are invited to learn about the unique history that surrounds Morris County Historical Society’s Acorn Hall while enjoying the picturesque six-acre property on four Wednesdays in August. Programs are geared to ages 7 to 12 and begin at 10 a.m., rain or shine. Beginning Wednesday, Aug. 5, the programs are $3 per child, free for accompanying adults.

Jacob’s, Jacks, & Graces, Oh My! Play like it’s the 1800s. From the folk toy Jacob’s Ladder, the ancient game of jacks, to game of graces, a popular activity in the early 1800s, join us on Wednesday, Aug 5.

Acorn Hall’s Awesome Architecture: Tour the exterior of Augustus Crane’s “country house” to discover the features that make Acorn Hall special on Wednesday, Aug. 12.

By Hand or By Horse: Before the days of cars and power tools, there were still places to go and things do. From ice sleds to tree saws, explore how our ancestors got the job done on Wednesday, Aug 19.

Let’s Go Crazy (Quilts): Learn how these bright and wild quilts with fun shapes and hidden pictures live up to their names on Wednesday, Aug. 26.
