The Great Depression was an unprecedented period in our nation’s history in which the scars were deep and devastating. The nation saw unemployment rates that never went below 14 percent and for a full four years – 1932, 1933, 1934, and 1935 – was never below 20 percent. The financial crisis of 2007-2008, also known as the global financial crisis, was a severe worldwide economic crisis. Prior to the COVID-19 recession in 2020, it was considered by many economists to have been the most serious financial crisis since the Great Depression. This lecture by economist Arthur S. Guarino will highlight some of the causes and differences between these two financial crises.

Free and open to the public, the program will be held virtually over Zoom® at 12:00 p.m. on September 22, 2021. You must register on the Wayne Public Library’s Website to receive an invitation. This program is sponsored in part by the Wayne Public Library and the Friends of the Wayne Public Library.
