Foxes Herald Nature’s Resurgence in Suburban New Jersey

For most of my life the only time I saw a red fox it was probably a raccoon. They have those same glow-in-the-headlights silvery eyes.

But a few years ago, I began to see a once-rare piece of roadkill with greater frequency. No matter how flattened the rest of the fox was, it’s bushy-tail would blow around in the highway draft of cars and trucks as they raced past.

I assumed the ...

A Failsafe in a World of Falling Safes

I subscribe to the “Falling Safe” philosophy of life.

A person walks down a city street, perhaps inexplicably happy or modestly content, or maybe consumed by the routines of their day or bothered by life’s little annoyances.

High above them, in the upper reaches of a skyscraper under construction, work is being done. A crane is lifting beams or huge HVAC units, glass ...

What Parents Fear Most: Losing a Child at a University

The murder of Samantha Josephson by a man she trusted to be an Uber driver, is yet another tragic reminder that when we send our kids off to college these days, the elation of watching them ascend into adult life is tempered by fear for their safety.

Claudia Patterson dropped her son Kenny off at a Rutgers freshman dorm two years ago filled with optimism. He was a smart, popular athlete.

‘Skylight’ Takes Emotional Leap for Two Mismatched Lovers

PRINCETON, NJ – Kyra is living on the edge in an upstairs flat in north-west London. When her former employer, and lover, Tom, comes to see her, he is horrified that she will put up with such a sad, paint-peeling habitat.

But we learn, in David Hare’s fascinating “Skylight,” she is making a statement as well as finding fulfillment in teaching poor children in a rundown ...

‘She Loves Me’ sparkles and shines at Summit Playhouse

SUMMIT, NJ – With only one more weekend to see this charming musical at The Summit Playhouse, it’s well worth your time to seek out “She Loves Me” on May 17 or 18 at 8 p.m. or Sunday, May 19, at 2 p.m.

The play, set in 1937, has a long history, first as “The Perfumerie,” set in Budapest, by Hungarian playwright Mikos Laszio. Then there was a film version ...

‘The Importance of Being Earnest’ makes for delightful bon-bon at Chatham Playhouse

CHATHAM, NJ – There’s no one quite like Oscar Wilde to take a somewhat jaundiced view of the byways of the upper crust in staid London society.

“The Importance of Being Earnest,” an Edwardian farce, was perhaps Wilde’s most popular play and still seems to amuse and entertain today’s audience. Director Tom Frascatore has assembled a talented cast to add ...
