Are Kids Under Too Much Academic Pressure?

We live in a culture driven by competition and perfectionism—where success is defined by status, performance, and appearance. Both our children and ourselves are exposed to these pressures daily and respond to such pressures, whether we are aware of it or not. The truth of the matter is that this is the nature of the competitive world we live in, and that may not be changing anytime soon.

There’s You There’s Me and There’s Us

There are many different ways that people relate to one another in relationships. People generally tend to relate to each other in three ways: Independent, co-dependent and inter-dependent. Some people are very independent in relationships; others are co-dependent (which means they put aside their own well-being to maintain the relationship). Co-dependence leads to seeking validation and ...

Adjusting to the Single-Life Post Divorce

Navigating through a divorce can be very challenging, especially if it has been a long-term relationship. Although length of relationship sometimes does not matter, it’s the intensity of the relationship and how invested you were that does. Oftentimes we linger on in a marriage even knowing that it no longer serves us. When children are involved, we may feel that we are the cause for ...

The Disease to Please

The Disease to Please is a learned behavior that occurs when we take care of others’ needs at our own expense. If you are this type, you do too much, too often for others, almost never say “no” rarely delegate, and inevitably become over committed. These self-defeating patterns take a toll on your health and on your relationships. It is driven by the excessive need for ...

Taking Care of Yourself While Taking Care of Others

Around the world, women take care of other people. It’s a natural human expression of love that can be a source of great joy – and a source of exhaustion and stress over time. Although men are taking on more caregiving for children and family, women still handle the majority of childcare, elder care, and informal care to spouses, parents, in-laws, friends, and neighbors.

So, if ...
