Cynthia Alexander Galvin, 65, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 12, 2020 at Center for Hope Hospice in Scotch Plains. Born in Central Pennsylvania, she had been a longtime resident of Plainfield.

Cynthia was a Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker. Prior to her career in real-estate, Cynthia lived in New York City where she held a career in the fashion industry. Shortly after moving to Plainfield in 1998, she and her sister opened a home accessory store, The Gift Monkey, in Westfield where she was able to pursue her passion for interior decorating. Some of Cynthia’s favorite hobbies include entertaining, cooking, decorating and landscaping. She enjoyed traveling throughout Pennsylvania and New England, antique shopping and sightseeing.

Cynthia was always willing to get involved with local organizations, and was the recipient of the Women of Excellence Award for Community Service, Union County 2014. She was a Board Member of Friends of Plainfield Public Library, member of Historical Society of Plainfield, Board Member, Friends of Sleepy Hollow (FOSH), Plainfield, and a member of the Westfield Historical Society, National Trust Historic Preservation, Historic New England, and was actively involved each year in both the Westfield and Plainfield Yearly House Tours.

Cynthia is survived by her former husband, James Galvin; her brother, William Alexander; her sisters, Jacqueline Vachaviolos and Michelle Alexander; three nephews, Alexander, Douglas, and Craig; and by countless friends, colleagues, and clients. She was predeceased by her parents, William and Pauline Alexander; her brother, Alexander D. Alexander; her sister, Patricia “Tish” Alexander Cicardo and her husband, Joseph; and her niece, Alexandra Vachaviolos.

Visitation will be Sunday from 2-6 PM at Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Ave. Fanwood. Funeral Mass at St. Bernard’s R.C. Church, George St. Plainfield on Monday 10 AM. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Center for Hope Hospice in Scotch Plains or to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
