With profound sadness we share the passing of our wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, great-grandmother, and friend Judith Ann (Olsen) Kelly. Judi, beloved wife of Robert E. Kelly of Mahopac, passed away at 82 on Feb. 24, 2022 in Garden City Beach, S.C. Judi was born at home during a snowstorm in Kent Cliffs, N.Y. on Dec. 10, 1939 to the late Ernest and Emily (Hanley) Olsen. She grew up in Lake Lincolndale, N.Y. and was a graduate of Somers High School, Class of 1958. She first encountered the love of her life at The Dug-Out Restaurant in Mahopac. They married in 1959, dancing to Elvis Presley’s "Love Me Tender," Judi’s favorite artist.
As a wife, Judi was Bobby’s true compliment. Throughout their life together she was his co-pilot for many car rides, and together they navigated through local towns, long trips, and a full life with their children and grandchildren. As a mother, Judi was her daughters’ best friend and her sons were her pride and joy. As a grandmother, Judi was a frequent spectator at baseball and hockey games, used her sewing skills in the creation of many Halloween costumes, and was the giver of the best hugs. Family vacations to Lewey Lake and Garden City hold some of the family’s most treasured memories. Judi loved to spend time with family listening to stories, shopping, and making memories.
She spent many family dinners and celebrations at Four Brothers Restaurant in Mahopac and enjoyed looking for seashells on her walks in Garden City Beach. To know Judi was to love Judi; her love was unconditional. Judi truly saw and believed the best in everyone and made sure that they saw it too.
Judi will be grieved by her husband of 63 years and by their children Charles Kelly (wife Lori), Nancy Barker, Jacqueline Wilson (husband Rob), and Richard Kelly (wife Amy). Cherishing fond memories are her adoring grandchildren, Samantha and Christine Kelly, Kelly Ann Holmes (husband Ian), John Barker, Austin and Connor Wilson, Jenna, Matthew, Syd, and Shannon Kelly, and her great-grandson Declan. Her sweet sister Sally Olsen, her sister Marilyn Buckley, sister-in-law Stephanie Olsen, and her nephews and nieces will miss her fondly. Judi is reunited in passing with her brother Ernest Olsen. Judi will continue to be our light of hope and goodness, one half of the heart and soul of our family, and our quiet strength. Thank you Judi, thank you mom, thank you grandma, for helping us to be the kindest versions of ourselves. We will think of you always, recalling the way you looked when you smiled and laughed, remembering you when we smell the salt air or see a pretty shade of purple, and feeling the warmth of your love all around us when we need it most.
There will be no funeral services at this time. In lieu of flowers, please spread joy to others through an act of kindness in Judi’s loving memory.
