Robert E. Loughran Jr. of Brewster died unexpectedly on Sunday, Sept. 12. He was 77 years old. He was born on March 3, 1944, in Clearwater, Fla., son of the late Robert E. and Geraldine M. (Kiernan) Loughran.
Bob graduated valedictorian from the Peekskill High School Class of 1962 in Peekskill, where he was a “four letter man” in athletics and served as class president. He continued his education at Fordham University, receiving his bachelor’s degree in economics in 1966. He was an enthusiastic member of the Fordham Glee Club and its barbershop quartet, the Ramblers, which performed at the Town Hall in NYC. Bob was also a member of the U.S. National Guard for many years.
On Aug. 13, 1994, Bob married the love of his life, Mary I. Duncan, surrounded by family and friends in North Salem. Bob and Mary enjoyed nearly 30 wonderful years together. Previously, Bob was married to Diane Chick, also a Peekskill High School graduate, and together raised their son, Joe, in Yorktown.
Bob had a long and successful career as an advisor in the insurance and pension benefits industry. Before retiring in 2015, he was last a senior benefits consultant with Arthur J. Gallagher & Co in New York, N.Y., where he worked for over 15 years. Bob was a cherished colleague and loved by all his coworkers.
Bob loved the outdoors and nature, especially going for walks in the rain. He enjoyed traveling, most notably trips to the Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz, and visiting Mary’s native country of Scotland. Bob had a calm demeanor and gentle spirit. He was kind, incredibly astute, intuitive, and a dedicated hard worker. He loved his family and their dog, Angus, and was an amazing husband, father, and grandfather.
Bob is survived by his loving wife Mary, his son Joseph and wife Lilah Loughran of South Orange, N.J.; his stepchildren (John) Casey and wife Diana Maloney of New Fairfield, Conn., Kelly Maloney and husband Rich Schunk of Cold Spring, (James) Jamie and wife Susan Maloney of Danbury, Conn., and Thomas and wife April Maloney of Brewster. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Ellen, and husband Mark Kris of New York, N.Y.; his sister-in-law, Sandra Loughran, of Youngsville, N.C.; his brother-in-law, Edward Taylor, of New York, N.Y.; his 8 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Raymond Loughran, and his sister, Regina Loughran.
