Thomas John McEnery was born in Belleville, NJ on November 24, 1958, to Thomas Joseph and Agnes Ann McEnery. He grew up in Belleville, NJ and resided in Nutley, NJ for over 30 years. Tom was an employee of the Nutley Parks and Recreation Department since 2001. He was the loving father of 3 children who always came first.

Thomas McEnery was the proud president of the Nutley Irish American Association for the past 15 years and was also trustee of the association for 16 years.

In 2006, he was selected as Member of the Year of the Nutley St. Patrick’s Day parade and in 2012, he had the distinct honor of being the Grand Marshal. During his presidency, Tom grew the Nutley Irish organization to be one of the largest in the state with the number of members doubling under his leadership.

He was the driving force in raising funds for various families in need throughout the community. Tom was Chairman of the Caring for Kim committee and was a member of the St. Mary’s Knights of Columbus. He was the proud coordinator of many fundraising events including the Nutley Irish Relay for Life Team. Tom served on the Board of Directors of the Nutley Red Cross for 4 years where he was Member of Year in 2001 and volunteered in countless events to help others including delivery of food to first responders after the September 11th attacks. In 2016, he was the recipient of the John V. Kelly Memorial Foundation Humanitarian award.

For the last 3 years, he was listed by Insider NJ as one of New Jersey’s top Irish American leaders and activists.

His beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of his children and family Sara McEnery, Thomas McEnery, Colleen McEnery, Maureen McNish, Joseph H. McNish Sr., and Philomena McEnery Salgado. He will be loved always by his soulmate and “honey”, Colleen Nielsen, and a multitude of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

Services in honor of his admirable life will be held at S.W. Brown and Son Funeral Home, Inc. 267 Centre Street Nutley, NJ 07110 on Friday, September 10, 2021, from 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm.

Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church 17 Monsignor Owens Place Nutley, NJ 07110 on Saturday, September 11, 2021, at 11:30 am. All Mass attendees are invited to wear a touch of green to celebrate Tom’s love of his Irish heritage.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Thomas McEnery’s memory to Nutley Irish American Charitable Foundation. Tom always said to his family and friends how “blessed” he felt to have so many wonderful people in his life. We know that there is a spectacular St. Patrick’s Day parade being celebrated in Heaven.
