CORAL SPRINGS, FL – Coral Springs Museum of Art has a new director who will guide the museum through an anticipated budget shortfall and an eventual re-opening from the coronavirus emergency.

Coral Springs City Manager Frank Babinec said Monday that Jill M. Brown will serve as director of the museum which receives city funding.

Since mid-February, the museum has been run by interim director Petra Guiland after Julia Andrews retired.

In announcing Brown as director, Coral Springs said in a news release that Brown’s experience will help the museum through cultural development, new program initiative, and strategic planning.

Brown graduated from three universities. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in Art from Ohio University, Teaching Certification in Visual Arts from Bowling Green State University, and her Master of Education in Art Education from University of Toledo.

Brown’s career in the arts includes education, project management, art administration, marketing, and special events.

She is taking over the museum as it has faced up to a $140,00 budget shortfall related to the pandemic. Because of the anticipated shortfall, city officials said, the museum may need to consider cutting staff and reducing gallery hours when it re-opens.

Brown said in a news release: “I am excited to help transform the city’s vision for the CSMoA (museum). The arts connect people and perspective by building welcoming communities that provide opportunities for enrichment and creative learning. I am looking forward to working with the museum’s talented staff to implement new programming and new strategies that will further elevate the Coral Springs community.”
