NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - The New Providence Public Art presents the comedy "No Signs of Intelligent Life" from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 22 at the DeCorso Center in New Prvoidence.
This is the second annual fundraising event held by the New Providence Public Art. As part of this fundraiser, the comedy “No Signs of Intelligent Life” by Bryan Starchman, directed by Theresa Turner and featuring 26 local teenagers will be performed. Also, a silent auction with jewelry, artwork, theatre tickets, and other gift baskets and food and drinks will be part of the event.
New Providence Public Art was initiated by local artist Marjan Nirou-Saniee in late 2015 with the mission of enriching the quality of New Providence by making public art a feature of the community. It receives no funding from the borough, so the inaugural sculptures were made possible by our first annual fundraiser one year ago, which also featured a play performed by high school students, as well as a silent auction. Thanks to that fundraiser, and other private donations, there are now six public sculptures thoughout New Providence. However, these pieces are leased for one to two years, so in order to continue our public art program, ongoing support is needed from the community.
Tickets for this year’s fundraiser are $15 per adult, and $10 for students and senior citizens (maximum $50 per family). This includes the play, silent auction, and refreshments. Tickets can be purchased at the door of the DeCorso Center, 15 East 4th Street, New Providence.
