BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - After five consecutive weeks of threatening storms forcing the summer concerts to be postponed -- the season wrapped up with a spectacular evening last Wednesday in honor of our local first responders.

Before the the Idol Kings took the stage, our local first responders and community leaders lined the parking lot to greet the families. The kids enjoyed touring the rigs and checking out the equipment on display from the Police Department, Fire Department, Rescue Squad. They also enjoyed the bounce house, crafts  -- and the dunk tank, which was a crowd favorite -- as the kids lined up to take their chance at hitting the lever and dunking a friend. Community leaders handed out free hot dogs, Rita's Ice, and popcorn.

Dr. Patrick Smith of Smith Chiropractic and Paul Neuwirth of Taylor Rental presented checks for $1,000 each to the Fire Department, Volunteer Rescue Squad, Police Department and Recreation Department. The donation was proceeds from the first annual Berkeley Heights Block Party which was organized by the Berkeley Heights Business and Civic Community and chaired by Neuwirth.
