SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- Who can remember the Vera Lynn song, We'll Meet Again? The song lifted the spirits of the English during the dark days of the Battle of Britain.
We'll meet again
Don't know where
Don't know when
But I know we'll meet again some sunny day
Keep smiling through
Just like you always do
'Till the blue skies drive the dark clouds far away
Against this background, a history buff whose grandparents’ generation experienced WWII will give an overview of WWII and its effects on American society at the monthly meeting of the Historical Society of Scotch Plains and Fanwood on Tuesday, March 26.
Ryan Bergh Thies is our young history buff. He has resided all his life in Scotch Plains and currently is a sophomore at Oratory Prep School in Summit. He has been a member of the Historical Society since 2017. He has collected the thoughts of townspeople who survived it, having gleaned a lot of information from personal interviews.
The program takes begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Shady Rest Scotch Hills Country Club (820 Jerusalem Road) in Scotch Plains. It is free and open to all. Fellowship and refreshments follow the meeting. For further information, contact Connie Klock at 908-232-9489.
