WESTFIELD, NJ—Last night, the Downtown Westfield Corporation held its annual holiday open house. Business owners, local leaders and families mingled, shared ideas and enjoyed a taste of the town with food provided by many of Downtown Westfield’s great restaurants.

Executive Director Sherry Cronin told the crowd that the DWC is looking forward to celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2013.

2012 was an eventful year for Downtown Westfield. “We all survived Hurricane Sandy,” Cronin said. “Last week, we attended the International Council of Shopping Centers.”

She announced that Urban Outfitters will open on December 19.

The DWC held a number of successful events over the year, including two Girls’ Night Outs, Jazz Fest, the 5K and Pizza Extravaganza, Halloween trick-or-treating and a Halloween parade with the Optimist Club, photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus with Lord & Taylor, and now free holiday entertainment Downtown throughout December and the popular Miracle on Elm Street weekly drawings.

The newest edition of the DWC’s shopping and dining directory, “Destination Westfield,” is now available, with 100,000 copies in print.

“In terms of economic development, we do have some vacancies downtown, but we’re doing quite well compared to our competitors,” said Cronin.

“This evening is about celebrating,” she told everyone.

Mayor Andy Skibitsky added a few words of his own, thanking the DWC and its board members, volunteers and merchants for their investments, time and dedication.

When he tells people he lives in Westfield, said Skibitsky, they respond, “We love Downtown Westfield.”

Skibitsky wished everyone “Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah and a great 2013.”
