NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - With 2013 only a few days away, downtown New Providence will soon be home to a new restaurant, Galileo’s. It is on Springfield Avenue where McGrath's Hardware used to be and it is set to open the first week of January.
It will be a family-style restaurant that serves Italian food and they will deliver, cater and hold parties. Additionally, there is an outdoor seating deck in the rear, which would accommodate 32 patrons and inside they can serve a maximum of 92 people at a time.
Owners Galal Galal and Steven Karl are longtime friends with business experience. Galal, who is originally from Egypt, has 14 years of experience in hotel hospitality and has spent the past 14 at Arminios restaurant in Chatham as a manager. About a year ago, he and Karl were talking and the idea of opening a restaurant came up. Galal said they realized with their backgrounds and knowledge of the business, they were up for the challenge of opening their own restaraunt.
“It’s always good to work for yourself,” Galal said.
He said in order to be successful in owning a restaurant being personable and approachable are essential.
They were originally looking to have their business in Madison or Morristown, but one day he was driving through New Providence, saw the 'for rent' sign and knew it was a perfect fit. The construction was done by Lombardo Woodworking of New Providence. It started after Labor Day and finished in a timely fashion, he said. Galal said thanks to them, the project is on schedule.
He said Galileo's plans to join the Suburban Chamber of Commerce and the New Providence Business and Professional Association.
“The good thing about New Providence is they like to support their town,” Galal said.
Galal said the goal is to provide great customer service, excellent food, reasonable prices and a place where families can enjoy a night out.
“I’m very excited and I’m very nervous,” he said. “I hope everybody will be enjoying a good time here with us.”
