SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – At a board of education (BOE) meeting Nov. 20, several South Plainfield students were recognized for their academic achievements during the during the 2018-2019 school year. 

At this time, building and district administrators, along with BOE members, congratulated the 12 students who earned a perfect score of 850 on the math and/or English Language arts components of the 2019 New Jersey Student Learning Standard Assessments. 

Lauren Co, now a 7th grader at South Plainfield Middle School (SPMS), was the only district student to garner a perfect score in both math and ELA while Grant 5th grader Cassandra Penny was the only elementary student to earn a perfect score on the math component.

Quentin Alexandre, now a 6th grader at Grant, earned a perfect score on the 5th grade ELA assessment; Vincent Tran, now a 7th grader at SPMS, earned a perfect score on the 6th grade ELA assessment; and current SPMS 8th graders Allison Buchanan, Lily Ha, Victoria Huynh, and Nicolai Mendoza each achieved perfect scores on the 7th ELA assessment. South Plainfield High School (SPHS) juniors Brian Gallagher, Chioma Ibeku, and Emma Morin each earned an 850 on the 10th grade ELA assessment and sophomore Nicholas Seurai earned a perfect score on the 9th grade ELA assessment. 

“Congratulations,” said Dr. Noreen Lishak, superintendent of South Plainfield Schools. “We are so proud of all of you. Great job.”

“Tonight is a proud and special night because we recognize all these students…for this high level of academic achievement. It is a testament to our district that we place an importance on recognizing and celebrating their success,” said Robert Diehl, interim principal of South Plainfield High School.

“Congratulations to all of these students; the academic scores are phenomenal,” said SPBOE President Doug Chapman.
