LIVINGSTON, NJ – Livingston High School (LHS) has announced that Jared Goldsmith (Dramatic Performance) has officially been named a qualifier for the NCFL Grand National Tournament, which will be held in Chicago during Memorial Day weekend. The National Catholic Forensic League (NCFL) is dedicated to supporting high school speech and debate activities for public, private, and parochial high schools in the US and Canada. The National Association of Secondary School Principals has placed this program on the NASSP National Advisory List of Contests and Activities for 2013-2014.
Goldsmith also received the four-year national qualifier award from the Newark CFL—the first in LHS history (2011: Washington, D.C., 2012: Baltimore, 2013: Philadelphia, 2014: Chicago).
In previous years, Goldsmith qualified for the NCFL Grand National Tournament in the Duo Interpretation of Literature category with two different partners.
At the NJFL state championships held at The College of New Jersey, Ranvir Bhatia advanced to the semifinal round in Declamation, placing 12th in the state. Ilana Saltzman won the fifth place trophy in Humorous Interpretation. They are the first students from LHS to make the semifinal and final rounds, respectively, in the NJFL State Championship.
Saltzman also competed in the National Forensic League District Qualifier at Delbarton School. This tournament determines who qualifies for the NFL National Tournament, the largest competition in the nation. In order to qualify, students choose to compete in one or two of the six categories offered and must place in the top three in their respective categories. Saltzman advanced to the quarterfinal round in Dramatic Interpretation and won the third place trophy, becoming the top qualifier, in Humorous Interpretation.
Saltzman will be competing against 260 other competitors from across the nation in Humorous Interpretation and is the first LHS student to qualify for this tournament. She is one of twenty-seven competitors who will represent "Team NJ" in Overland Park, Kansas.
