SPOTSWOOD, NJ - Kids and some parents may cringe when the back-to-school commercials come on, but the Spotswood PTA has the scoop on sweetening the start of the 2019-20 school year. The PTA will once again welcome students and staff back to classes with Ice Cream Socials at the Appleby and Schoenly Schools.

The Schoenly School, which houses preschool through first graders will have their Ice Cream Social on Friday, September 20 in the school's multi-purpose room from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. Second through fifth graders at the Appleby School will have their Ice Cream Social on Friday, September 13 from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the school's multipurpose room. Memorial Middle School members of the National Junior Honor Society will also be on hand to help dish out the ice cream and entertain the youngers students with activities.

Students of both the Spotswood School District's elementary schools as well as their parents and siblings are invited to come and enjoy an evening of ice cream and fun. The Spotswood PTA began the ice cream socials four years ago as a way to let kids and their parents meet their new classmates, teachers and principals in a fun atmosphere. Since its inception, the ice cream socials have been a popular, family-friendly event.

The Spotswood PTA will also be hosting Back-to-School Bingo on Friday, September 27 at 6:30 p.m. in the Memorial Middle School Cafeteria. The cost is $5 per child and includes bingo, pizza, dessert and a beverage. Pizza-eating adults are $2. Siblings are welcome. Participants must pre-register for Back-to-School Bingo. Bingo registration information will be sent home with students shortly after the start of the 2019-20 school year on Thursday, September 5.
