SPARTA, NJ- Campaign season is just beginning.  Locally the ballot will include two seats for Sparta Township Council and four seats for Sparta Board of Education.

While the deadlines are still weeks away, several residents have already announced their candidacy. 

For township council Sussex County Freeholder and former Sparta mayor, Josh Hertzberg and deputy mayor Christine Quinn have announced they will be running together for the two four-year seats.

For board of education current board member Joanne Hoover has submitted her petition to seek another three year term.

A slate of four candidates has also announced they will be running together. Three candidates will be running for three year terms and one to fill an uncompleted position for one year.  They have not yet announced the specifics of who will be going for the one-year seat.

Petitions for Township Council can be obtained through the township clerk, Kathleen Chambers.  They are due back to Chambers by 4 p.m. on Monday, August 31.

Petitions for board of education can be downloaded from the Sussex County Clerk’s website for filing jointly or as an individual candidate.  They are due back to the Sussex County Clerk’s office by 4 p.m. on July 27.
