ELIZABETH, NJ - The Little League season may be officially over but the parade of champions continues for a group of players who've captivated the hearts and minds of an entire city, including local sandwich shop owner and avid sports fan, Pete Mitola, who decided to name a sandwich after the boys and call it the  "Elmora Trooper." The Sandwich, which is also named after fallen State Trooper Thomas J. Hanratty in which the team is named after, will be a new staple on the menu and one of 75 sandwiches made there each day.

The ingredients were chosen by the players and coaches entirely and represent some ingredients local to many of the Latin countries which the players and coaches come from including ham, chorizo, avocado, bacon, melted cheese and more. Dara's Caterers, 454 Elmora Avenue, which has been in business for more than 40 years and was recently rated the #1 Sandwich Shop in Union County by the Star Ledger. Dara's hosted the ceremonial naming of the “Elmora Trooper” on Saturday, November 2,  attended by the players, coaches and families, local fans and Mayor Chris Bollwage. The Mayor attended all the games in Bristol, Connecticut and Williamsport, PA, rooting the Troopers on to a Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship and a first-ever appearance by an Elizabeth team to make the Little League World Series.

The Mayor thanked Dara's for their support and said the players represented the city with class and character, never giving up and playing hard to the end to finish as the 4th best team in the entire nation.

“I want to thank Dara’s for naming a sandwich after the team and I want to congratulate the coaches, Coach Labrador, Coach Garcia and Coach Aponte for a job well done," said Bollwage.

Owner Pete Mitola stated, “We are so glad to unveil the new Trooper Sandwich, made by the Troopers, it’s their sandwich, their ingredients and now it’s on the menu forever.”

Coach Jairo Labrador thanked Dara's as well and took the first bite of the sandwich, giving it high praise before passing out portions to the players who seemed to enjoy their new namesake, the Elmora Trooper.

Local Elmora resident and Trooper fan Tony Brennan attended the event and stated, “It was a home run today in every sense of the word, it’s not only the unveiling of the new Elmora Trooper Sandwich here at Dara’s but it’s really continuing to honor a Little League Team that really put Elizabeth on the map, brought our city together, honored our late State Trooper Tommy Hanratty, so it’s a win-win and a grand slam all the way around.”

The Elmora Trooper sandwich will be a permanent fixture on the menu at Dara’s.

The Troopers are the first Elizabeth Little League team to ever reach the Little League World Series and went 2-2 in World Series play and finished as the 4th best team in the Nation.
