UNION, NJ - Many Union restaurants, delis and shops are adapting to this time of uncertainty and remain open to serve customers.  With curbside pickup, carry out or delivery available, they are doing what they can to serve the community and stay in business.

“We have been receiving amazing community support,” said Katherine, manager at Van Gogh’s Ear Café.  “Van Gogh’s Ear has been a staple in town for over 20 years.  It’s comforting to see customers coming out to support us.  It means a lot.”  Van Gogh’s Ear is offering curbside pick-up and delivery.  Items from Jammed Up Bakery can be ordered through Van Gogh’s Ear Café.

“It’s a difficult time,” said Patty Inghilleri, owner of Café Z.  “We appreciate everyone who comes out to support us.”

Bill Constantino, owner of Constantino’s Italian Market on Chestnut Street, said they have retained all of their employees and continue to make everything they sell from scratch.  “We still get our bread delivered every day from Brooklyn.  Everything is fresh, as always.”

Establishments offer curbside pickup, inside pickup, and/or delivery.  Fast food restaurants (McDonald’s, Burger King, Wendy’s, Chick-fil-A, and more) along the Route 22 corridor remain open at their drive-thru windows.

In an effort to protect the public from the spread of COVID-19, effective Saturday, March 21 at 9:00 p.m., Governor Phil Murphy signed Executive Order No. 107, which directed all residents to stay at home until further notice.  The order offered exceptions for getting essential goods or services, going to the doctor or pharmacy, partaking in outdoor activities, and going to work.  Restaurants were deemed essential, although patrons are no longer allowed to dine-in.

Restaurant owners say business is slow, but residents are taking the opportunity to order from their favorite eateries to support them.  In the uncertainty, they say it's nice to have the comfort of a favorite meal from a familiar restaurant.
