VERONA, NJ - Floyd Cardoz, a renowned Indian-American chef and Verona resident, died Wednesday after testing positive for COVID-19 a week ago.

Cardoz, who was 59 years old, was being treated at Mountainside Medical Center for the virus. 

Cardoz was returning from a trip to Mumbai on March 8 when he felt feverish. He admitted himself to a hospital in New York as a precaution. On his Instagram account, on March 17, Cardoz apologized to his followers for causing “undue panic.” However, his condition did worsen, and he was admitted into a hospital closer to home.

Cardoz was known for his excellent cuisine and won the Top Chef Masters Season 3 reality show challenge. He opened two restaurants in New York City, Tabla and the Bombay Bread Bar, both of which called on his Indian roots to create the menu. He had also co-owned two restaurants in Mumbai.

Floyd Cardoza is survived by his mother Beryl, wife Barkha, and sons Justin and Peter.
